After being admitted to the hospital on Thursday, Lisa Marie Presley, a singer and the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died at the age of 54.

Later on Thursday night, Presley’s 77-year-old mother confirmed her demise.

In a statement, Priscilla Presley said, “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most fervent, powerful, and loving woman I’ve ever met. We request discretion as we work to process this tragic loss. Thank you for your prayers and love. No additional comments will be made at this time.

According to TMZ, Presley was taken to the hospital from her Calabasas, California, home following a reported cardiac arrest. In a statement released when the news first surfaced, her mother pleaded with followers to remember her daughter in their prayers.

In a separate statement, Presley’s family expressed their shock and devastation over Lisa Marie’s tragic death. They humbly appreciate everyone’s love, support, and prayers and ask for privacy during this extremely difficult period.

Two days before being admitted to the hospital, the musician attended the Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles with her mother as a member of the cast of Baz Luhrmann’s critically acclaimed biopic Elvis. For his portrayal of the King, actor Austin Butler was awarded best actor in a drama film that evening.

“I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it,” Presley said in praise of Butler’s performance. It took me about five days to process it because it was so amazing, accurate, and genuine.

Presley is the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, and was born in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. When her parents got divorced, Presley moved to Los Angeles with her mother but would later go back to her father’s Graceland house in Memphis.

Nine-year-old Presley, her grandfather Vernon Presley, and her great-grandmother Minnie Mae Hood became co-heirs to Elvis’ estate after his passing in 1977. Presley was the only surviving heir of the estate when it was valued at US$100 million when she was 25. She gave Industrial Media the majority of the estate’s business shares in 2005, but she kept ownership of Graceland.

Don’t Cry Daddy, a duet featuring Presley’s father’s vocals, was released in 1997 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing. Later, she pursued a career in music like her father, putting out the albums To Whom It May Concern (2003), Now What (2005), and Storm & Grace (2012).

Presley had four marriages. Between 1988 and 1994, she was married to musician Danny Keough, with whom she had two children: actor Riley Keough and Benjamin Keough, who committed suicide in 2020 at the age of 27. In a 2022 essay for People, Presley described how her son’s suicide left her feeling “destroyed.”

After their divorce, Keough and Presley remained close friends, and Keough stayed at Presley’s estate up until her passing. According to TMZ, Keough gave Presley CPR until paramedics could arrive.

After divorcing Keough, Presley married singer Michael Jackson; however, the couple separated 18 months later. During that time, Presley persuaded Jackson to resolve child molestation claims outside of court and to enter a drug rehab program.

She later admitted to a Jackson biographer, “I believed he didn’t do anything wrong, and that he was wrongly accused, and, yes, I started falling for him.” “I desired to protect him. I believed I could succeed.

She became engaged to musician John Oszajca in 2000, but the relationship ended when she met actor Nicolas Cage at a party. In August 2002, Cage and Presley got hitched; however, Cage requested a divorce in November.

Michael Lockwood, Presley’s guitarist and music producer, and the couple’s twin daughters, Harper and Finley, were born in 2006. Having been married for ten years, Presley filed for divorce.

She received awards from the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Tennessee in 2011 for her humanitarian work.

Presley wrote that she developed an addiction to opioids following the birth of her twins in 2008 and was open about her struggles with the disease.

She spent about 20 years as a scientologist before reportedly resigning in 2014. Riley and her mother still attend the church.
