Actor Joe Alwyn has revealed why he is determined to keep his five-year relationship with Taylor Swift private, explaining that the more you share and give of yourself in this constantly intrusive culture, something will always be taken away. In an interview with ELLE magazine, Alwyn explained: “It’s not really because I want to be guarded and private; it’s more a response to something else.”
“We live in a culture that is so increasingly intrusive… The more you give – and frankly even if you don’t give it — something will be taken,” said the 31-year old actor. “It’s about respecting people’s privacy.”
Alwyn began dating superstar singer/songwriter Taylor Swift back in 2017 but rarely speak or post on social media about one another.
In July 2018 however when asked by GQ Magazine whether they were still together for fear of being exposed by paparazzi following their busy lifestyles (Swift tours extensively over summer months) the 27 year old answered no – insisting she had never been interested before tabloid photos surfaced showing them kissing at Coachella Music Festival earlier this month
He also declined to name a favourite Swift song, adding: “I’m just not even going to go into that side of the world.”
Swift has also previously spoken about keeping their relationship under wraps, telling the Guardian in 2019 that it “isn’t up for discussion”. They said if they were speaking as friends and not on record they would talk about it but because she went public with her relationships “the boundary is” where their lives became manageable. In reality, stressors are neutral – how you react to them makes them either positive or negative so what many people believe is right or wrong might simply be different approaches taken by individuals who want control over circumstances in order feel better mentally and physically
In July 2020, on the surprise album folklore, he helped write tracks “exile” and “Betty”, which were released with his credit. He also received credits for the songs “champagne problems”, “coney island”, and “evermore”.
Swift’s fans believe “Dress” on her 2017 album Reputation refers to the moment she met boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who is believed to be at the 2016 Met Gala.
In the lyrics, Taylor Swift wrote “Flashbacks to when you met me, your buzzed cut and my hair bleached.” Alwyn attended the Met Gala that year with a short buzz cut while wearing a custom Louis Vuitton metallic dress with lace-up stilettos worn by Taylor at the event.
